Common Bond Preservation is a full-service, woman-owned cultural resource consulting firm specializing in architectural history and historic preservation. CBP was founded in January of 2008 by preservation professionals Shannon PApin and Heather Barrett to provide communities and organizations in the Southwest and throughout the nation with the highest quality historic and cultural resource preservation services.

Common Bond Preservation maintains a commitment to professional excellence and direct project involvement by the firm’s principals. The staff of CBP has the regulatory, statutory and practical experience, as well as the knowledge and connections necessary to assist our clients in making the best possible project development and management decisions. The firm’s project management goal is to provide the highest quality deliverables in a timely fashion, whether the project is a single survey form or an entire National Register district nomination.

All staff meet the professional qualification standards for Historians and Architectural Historians as outlined in the Secretary of Interior’s Standards, and are familiar with the building styles and historic context of the American West. Principal Shannon Papin has worked with the National Park Service in previous capacities and maintains strong professional relationships with staff at the Historic American Buildings Survey, the National Register of Historic Places, and the entire Heritage Preservation Services Division. Common Bond Preservation has a long-standing professional association with the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division, whose staff can be consulted as needed for additional knowledge and guidance. In addition, Ms. Papin has professional relationships with the staff of numerous State Historic Preservation Offices across the country from her previous position at the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. Ms. Barrett has left full-time consulting and currently is Director of Survey and Research at the Maryland Historical Trust (SHPO), but her services can be called upon on an as-needed basis.

CBP is committed to continuing education in the field and regularly attends state and national conferences pertaining to historic preservation and other cultural resource issues. CBP is a member of the Society of Architectural Historians, the Vernacular Architecture Forum, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Cultural Resource Network.
